About me
My name is Grace Sarkisian and I’m a senior studying News Media at the University of Alabama. I’m originally from Tampa, Florida, but I’m hoping to move to the “Big Apple” after graduation. I have a passion for journalism which stems from my time spent being a part of my high school’s yearbook staff. I’m currently the Editor-in-Chief of the New College Review, a literary magazine affiliated with the New College, and I’ve written for numerous other publications on and off campus.
Focus
For this project, my attention was mainly focused on piecing together the combined research of the class to compile a concise final report, I was the key point of contact when it came to organizing all the research that was gathered by every member of the group.
In addition, I also contributed to the final report by conducting research on the constraints of outdoor recreation, as well as looking at past grant applications regarding building Outdoor Recreation Economies. Additionally, I explored media coverage that helped us see what information was significant to building and constructing these projects.
Reflection
Looking back to when this course first began, our class has come a long way in utilizing all of our diverse skills to create something new that is efficient and unique. I have a background in journalism, as well as communications, and these abilities actually helped me in more ways than I originally thought they would. These capabilities allowed me to proficiently construct our final report in a professional, yet accessible way. My past experience also benefited the overall group because I was able to give the perspective of the media in terms of grant applications, specifically outdoor recreation.
I enjoyed collaborating with my peers in the Honors College on this project, if it weren’t for this senior seminar, I wouldn’t have gotten the chance to work with students of different majors and skills. It has been extremely interesting to watch this venture come together from a group of unlike members. As a senior, I’m grateful to have gotten the opportunity to expand my perception and learn from the other individuals in my class.
